Fry's Electronic Superstore - City of Industry, CA
When the doors opened on the newest Fry's Electronics superstore
at the Crossroads Business Park in the City of Industry, CA, all eyes were on the giant
gears towering over the entryway. The building is modeled after an early 1900s factory
and the only thing "retro" about this high-technology retail outlet is the unique
industrial theme throughout the exterior and interior of the store. This location
places Fry's strategically in the center of their Southern California locations and
allows them to reach over 1.9 million people in their trade area according to Philip Brown,
vice president of Majestic.
"In creating their newest Southern California store, Fry's was inspired by the
factories of the last century, which featured heavy industrial machinery, conveyor belts,
and the like," said Rex Hoover, Majestic's vice president of development. "It certainly
creates an interesting retail experience when you juxtapose the retro design with the
high-tech merchandise sold here."
Loyal Fry's customers agreed, as evidenced by the crowds who waited in line as early
as 5 a.m. to mark the official grand opening on Feb. 22. The new store is the anchor
tenant for the 25-acre retail component at Majestic's 110-acre Crossroads Business Park,
located just off the 60 Freeway at Crossroads Parkway North.
"The new Fry's sets a standard for retail in Southern California," Hoover said. Built
from the ground up, unlike other Fry's outlets that were converted from existing buildings,
the store is the size of 21¼ football fields.
"Much went into the unique design," he added, "from the hand-painted mural adorning
the ceiling-a homage to artist Diego Rivera’s 1930 design for Ford Motor Co. ¯ to the 34"
gear cutting through the building."
"This was a turnkey operation," Hoover said. "Essentially, our very own - Commerce
Construction Co, L.P. had to build a store that would please Fry's followers and attract
new customers; I think the result surpassed everyone's wildest expectations."
The site includes a freestanding café, also carrying the factory theme with an old
brick exterior and a high-tech interior.
According to store officials, more than 30,000 customers visited the new Fry's on
opening day. Ed Roski, Jr., president and CEO of Majestic Realty Co., joined Mayor
David Perez, Randy Fry, president of Fry's Electronics and other City of Industry
officials at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
"This is a fun environment, where customers will come for an experience-not just to
shop, but to play games, try out home theaters, listen to CDs," Hoover said. "We are
really proud that Fry's has joined the Majestic Family and we look forward to welcoming
new retailers to Crossroads Business Park in the coming months."
At present, Majestic is developing more than 11 acres of retail space in the second
phase of Crossroads Business Park. High visibility pads adjacent to Fry's are still
available. For information about retail and business opportunities, contact Rex
