Sport Chalet Signs at Citrus Plaza in Inland Empire

Citrus Plaza - Redlands, CA

As the first new retail development in Southern California’s growing Inland Empire in more than a decade, Majestic’s 125-acre Citrus Plaza is already exceeding expectations as a destination shopping center. Combining the ideal retail fundamentals - affluent demographics, visibility, access and location - the master-planned project is set to deliver exceptional sales potential to its high-profile tenants, including Kohl’s, Sport Chalet, Target, Cost Plus Imports, Barnes and Noble, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Michaels.

When the center is fully open in 2004, Phase I will include more than 530,000-sq. ft. of retail, restaurant and shop space featuring many merchants that are new to the area.

Strategically located at the northwest corner of the 30 and 10 freeways, Citrus Plaza is ideally situated to draw shoppers from many communities within the Inland Empire - particularly nearby Loma Linda, City of Highlands, Redlands and East Highlands Ranch.

The 530,000-sq. ft. power center and 1,350,000-sq. ft. lifestyle mall were designed with attention to detail in order to bring a sense of place and a regional focus to the area, explained John Hunter, Majestic vice president and director of retail development. Citrus Plaza is graced with a neo-classic Mediterranean design, tile roofs, archways, stone columns, vibrant serpentine walkways, spectacular fountains and a courtyard area for food vendors and entertainment. The design incorporates mission-style elements, with mosaic tile features, and themes from the Citrus industry that is a part of the region’s heritage.

“Whether dining or shopping in the restaurants and boutiques or walking the plaza and arcades, Citrus Plaza fills a void for this community by delivering on the promise of upscale shopping, dining and entertainment,” Hunter said.

The development effort was spearheaded by Majestic-owned Commerce Construction Co., which contributed to the entitlement efforts over several years. Commerce Construction was responsible for the design and construction of all infrastructure improvements - a factor that was instrumental in the on-time opening of the new Kohl’s department store which opened in March of this year.

Wisconsin-based Kohl’s opened its Citrus Plaza location as part of its 28-store expansion into Southern California. At March 1, 2003, the company operated 457 stores in 33 states. Next to join Kohl’s at the center will be Sport Chalet. The La Canada, California-based sporting-goods retailer recently signed an $18.2-million, build-to-suit deal with Majestic to open a 42,000-sq. ft. store in October 2003.
